I actually agree with this. I think because all the attention can be directed at one person, everyone’s like OMG IT’S SUCH A SELF-INSERT BLAHDEY BLAH BLAH
but felicia is awesome so stfu
I had an opportunity to speak with her briefly at PAX about the project and not only was she an incredibly nice person but she was very enthusiastic about Redemption and Dragon Age in general. I left the encounter feeling really good knowing that the included famous face actually cared about the series as a gamer and fellow fan.
I think that people tend to be a bit polarized in their opinions of her as a public personality so that probably detracted from the enjoyment that some had of the DLC. As they say “haters gonna hate” and all. The tone of the marketing also seemed more geared towards promotion of Day than of Dragon Age at times and I’ll admit that even I felt a little exhausted with that by the time of release.
While it’s neat to see talented and recognizable faces in game that isn’t a selling point for me. In the end I’m looking to buy a well written and developed Bioware product and I am far more interested in the quality of the voice acting and direction of the game. I am glad that the DLC provided a lot of fun content for me and that the DA team had an opportunity to experiment with some game mechanics along the way because that’s what I put my money down on.
Besides, I would imagine you’d be hard pressed to find any fan of the game who wouldn’t jump at the chance to be a part of Thedas. I know I’d say yes in a heart beat. ;)
